DAY 1, Saturday - Depart for Ireland
Depart for Ireland

DAY 2, Sunday - Arrive in Dublin
Welcome to Dublin, one of the friendliest cities in Europe. Arrive and transfer to your hotel. As you drive to the hotel, see the city's contrasting architecture, from modern glass to grand neoclassical facades and lovely views of the River Liffey. Most flights arrive in the early morning and your room may not be ready for you. In this case, leave your luggage with the concierge and your Tour Manager will provide suggestions for you to begin to explore the city on your own. Tonight, meet your fellow travelers and Tour Manager for an orientation meeting at approximately 6pm, followed a Welcome Dinner
Overnight: Dublin
Meals: Dinner

DAY 3, Monday - Waterford, Russborough House, Birds of Prey Centre, Irish National Stud
Travel this morning to magnificent Russborough House, a grand mansion built 275 years ago with spectacular unspoiled views of the Wicklow Mountains and Blessington Lakes. On a tour of the home, admire the unique ceilings and a superb collection of world-class art and furnishings, including a lavish music room with four grand pianos. Enjoy tea and fresh-baked scones in the charming Tea Room before continuing to the Bird of Prey Center, home to over 40 birds including golden eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons. Then, on to the Irish National Stud Farm, where world-class thoroughbreds have been raised since 1946. Walk around the grounds to admire immaculate stallions, graceful mares, playful foals and learn about the dedicated breeding for royalty. Continue to the property's serene century-old Japanese gardens, considered by many to be the finest in Europe. Travel to Waterford with its world-renowned crystal workshops
Overnight: Waterford
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 4, Tuesday - Waterford, Cobh Heritage Center, Jameson Distillery
Morning walking tour of the city of Waterford, often referred to as Ireland's oldest city, a place that can trace its beginnings all the way back to the arrival of the Vikings. Stand on the edge of the river looking over Merchants Quay and Waterford's low-rise skyline with its impressive views of the city's brightly colored 19th-century buildings, church spires, and towers. Then, travel west along the coast to Youghal and Cobh, where emigration from Ireland began during the 19th-century famine -- more than two million Irish left from here to begin a new life in America. This port was also the last stop for the infamous Titanic before its fateful maiden voyage ended tragically. On the return to Waterford, stop at the famous Jameson distillery for a tour and tasting. Tonight, dinner together is in a local pub
Overnight: Waterford
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 5, Wednesday - Rock of Cashel, Home Hosted Lunch, Adare, Medieval Banquet
Morning visit to the Rock of Cashel, one of Ireland's most spectacular archaeological sites - a collection of medieval church buildings and fortresses set on top of a limestone outcrop rising out of County Tipperary's Golden Vale. This significant historical site was for 600 years the power-base of the kings of Munster. Many of the old church buildings still survive and a gentle trek to the top of the Rock offers wonderful views. Next, on to Molanna Farm, where lunch has been specially arranged just for you with a local family at their home. Your hosts have true local charm and you'll be warmly welcomed with lively conversation about life on an Irish homestead, plus excellent home cooked food. Arrive in the charming and picturesque village of Adare with its pastel-hued storefronts and thatched-roof houses for overnight. The remainder of the day is at leisure in the lovely village of Adare. Perhaps take some time to shop for the village's well-known woolens. This evening, a fun-filled authentic Medieval Banquet in a 15th century Irish Castle, complete with fine food, wine and a night of revelry, accompanied by live music, song, and dance. It will truly be a fabulous evening to share with your fellow travelers
Overnight: Adare
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Medieval Banquet Dinner

DAY 6, Thursday - Dingle Peninsula, Foynes
Morning drive to the spectacular Dingle Peninsula with its breathtaking scenery and backdrop of several films. Continue on to arrive in Foynes town, which was the last port of call on Ireland's western shore for seaplanes. As a result, Foynes would become one of the biggest civilian airports in Europe during World War II. Visit the Flying Boat Museum, commemorating Ireland's first international airport in the pioneering days of transatlantic aviation from the 1930s. In this old terminal building, Irish coffee was created to warm the cold and wet passengers. You can try one! Tonight, dinner is at the hotel
Overnight: Adare
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 7, Friday - Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Connemara
Today, you'll see some of Ireland's most spectacular scenery on the drive to the Cliffs of Moher along the Atlantic coast of County Clare. At the southern end of the Cliffs stands Hags Head, a natural promontory that resembles a seated woman. Stop at the Visitors Center set into the hillside, with a 19th-century viewing tower and pathways. The rock wall, which towers 700 feet over the crashing surf of the Atlantic, is surely one of the most stunning meetings of land and water you're likely to ever see. Then, arrive in lively Galway, nestled on the sea, with its imposing cathedral and one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. Drive by the rugged landscape surrounding Connemara National Park, with its crumbling coastline and rolling hills to Westport in County Mayo for dinner and overnight
Overnight: Westport
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 8, Saturday - County Mayo, Sheepdog Demonstration
Travel along the Wild Atlantic Way to the town of Sligo, with its renowned natural beauty, home to the young William Butler Yeats. Continue to Lissadell House for a guided visit and lunch, before stopping at a working sheep farm to watch a sheep herding demonstration*. Return to Wesport via Drumcliffe, set against the striking backdrop of the Benbulben Mountains. Here, visit the graveyard of St. Columba's Church, best known worldwide as the final resting place of the world-famous poet W. B. Yeats. View his grave that is marked with a simple headstone bearing the inscription, "cast a cold eye on life, on death, horseman, pass by." Spend the evening at leisure in Westport. Stroll through this lovely town and dine independently at one of the fine restaurants
*For early August & early September departures, the sheepdog demonstration will not be available due to local events
Overnight: Westport
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 9, Sunday - Cruise the River Shannon, Discover Dublin
Depart Westport on the way to Carrick-on-Shannon, the quaint capital of Leitrim. Here, enjoy a relaxing cruise down the River Shannon, complete with freshly brewed tea and homemade Irish scones. Sit back and marvel at the Emerald Isle's peaceful scenery on the drive to historic Dublin. Your exploration of Dublin, immortalized by James Joyce, begins with a visit to Phoenix Park, the largest enclosed city park in Europe, over 1750 acres. This urban park is home to the official residence of the President and Dublin Zoo. Continue to view St. Patrick's Cathedral, the largest church in Ireland, founded in 1191. Tradition has it that it was here that St. Patrick baptized converts on his visit to Dublin. As you travel on O'Connell Street, admire the handsome buildings that line the city's main thoroughfare. Spend the evening at leisure in Dublin with its fabulous restaurants, vibrant nightlife, and friendly pubs
Overnight: Dublin
Meals: Breakfast

DAY 10, Monday - Dublin Morning Tour
Start the day at Trinity College. See the 8th century Book of Kells, a superb example of early Irish manuscript illumination that is on display in the Old Library. After, visit famed Guinness Storehouse for a sampling of the brew. You can pull your own pint here in the Dublin tradition and browse the award-winning multimedia exhibits about Guinness -- the city's best-known export. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to explore Dublin independently. Spend time visiting famous sites throughout the city, including Dublin Castle and the National Gallery, where both Irish and European pieces of art are beautifully displayed. Perhaps purchase some souvenirs on Grafton Street, the city's stylish and popular shopping district. Finish the day in this remarkable and storied city in its oldest pub, the Brazen Head, dating back to 1198. Great Irish folklore and storytelling are on the menu, amidst candlelit splendor as you savor your Farewell Dinner in Dublin
Overnight: Dublin

We are still talking about our wonderful Gate 1 trip, the things we learned, the people we met, and the fun we had. The more I think about this trip, the more I understand how difficult it is to plan an itinerary that pleases all on the trip. I must say that there was something for everyone ... we have no complaints. Our guides were all wonderful, especially Usa, our tour manager. She was efficient, pleasant, knowledgeable, and friendly for TWO WEEKS, and that is hard to do! I will have more thoughts once we get back to Houston, but at this point, I think we made a great decision to go with Gate 1.

Terrific, as usual! We’re now in double digits with traveling with Gate 1! Shyam, our guide, was superb. He conveyed his love of country, gave a good explanation of each day’s activities, and made sure everyone in the group was satisfied. He’s a gem. Also, his helper, Rohan, was great, and the driver did a terrific job. We were very pleased with the hotel selections and the itinerary. We have 2 more tours scheduled with Gate 1 this year. Keep up the good work!

As usual, Gate 1 did not disappoint. Sri Lanka was fabulous... with an abundance of friendly people, fabulous landscape and micro climates. It was rich in history and spirituality (Budha and Hindu temples everywhere) make this island very interesting to discover. I would be interested in expanding my exploration into the Northern part of Sri Lanka sometime in the future. I need to find out where in the world I will travel to in 2020...

The trip was wonderful and far exceeded all expectations! Silvia, our tour coordinator, was outstanding. She was attentive to the smallest detail and very knowledgeable of the area. We never saw her without a smile. Accommodations were wonderful and the meals consistently excellent. While all of our guides were exceptional, our guide at Terre del Paine, Chris, was outstanding. He conveyed his love of Patagonia with his hikes and gave us an even deeper appreciation of the area. The staff and crew of the Stella created a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Gate 1. We look forward to taking another Discovery tour.

Our trip to Patagonia with Discovery was awesome! Each and every day was wonderful, and exciting, while experiencing the most mind-blowing natural beauty of the world. Our tour guide Gabriel is the best guide I have ever had on Gate 1 or any other group tour. Gabriel was in control, professional, courteous, helpful, entertaining, informative, kind, all with the upmost concern for group safety at all times. The Patagonia Discovery trip is unique and very special!

This was our first Gate 1 Tour. We normally travel independently. We had a fabulous time doing the “Gems of South East Asia." We loved the small group (there were only 14 of us) and everyone got along really well. Panya did an outstanding job as our main tour guide. He went out of his way to accommodate everyone’s wishes and was very friendly, knowledgeable, thoughtful and compassionate. We had two vegans + a vegetarian + a non-fish eater in our group and he made sure everyone’s needs were taken care of at each restaurant. All the local tour guides were awesome too. We hope to use Gate 1 again in the future.

Our trip was wonderful. The guides were terrific, the sites and experiences were outstanding and the pace of activities was perfect. The tour was extremely well organized and the details and directions throughout were very clear. We especially enjoyed engaging in hands on experiences with residents in some of the countries. In addition to being very informative about the places we were visiting and the life and history in each of the countries we visited, our guides were instrumental in making suggestions and helping us navigate our way around cities on our own leisure time.

We had a very nice holiday in Sri Lanka. This was our first trip with Gate 1 and we are 100% satisfied with the superior standard of hotels you chose for us. The itinerary was varied and interesting, changing between nature and culture. Our guide, Heshan, was excellent, very helpful and very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna. The coach was always clean and fresh flowers were put on our seats daily. The couch driver and the assistant were excellent, and worked well as a team to get us safely through the chaotic traffic in Sri Lanka cities. Overall, very memorable and positive experience. We will definitely use your company in the future and recommend you to our friends.

The trip was magnificent. Easily the most physically demanding trip I have ever taken (jungle treks) ... I am 72 years old and in good health but the porters made the gorilla trek possible! The Ugandan people seem naturally friendly and outgoing. I love them. Morris 1 and Morris 2 are exceptional guides and just great guys. I recommend this trip to anyone and everyone. All of my Gate 1 trips have been super. My wife and I have always been taken care of extremely well. We go with another couple ... A great time for us to get together and have a great time. I wasn't sure what to expect and honestly was a little nervous to go to that part of the world. But I was pleasantly mistaken! This trip to Jordan was wonderful and such an eye-opening experience. The country is beautiful, safe and full of history. Our tour guide was exceptional! He knew so much and was a lot of fun! I'm grateful that Gate 1 created this tour and did it completely in Jordan (instead of a combo with another country). It really gives the traveler time to fully enjoy and appreciate Jordan. Discover Myanmar, September 2018
Dummy Image

I have taken several Gate 1 trips and am one of your cheerleaders- and the Myanmar trip was one of my favorites. To begin with, Mojo was a fabulous tour leader. We all loved him. He was fun- has a great sense of humor- and patient. He was interested in getting to know each of us, was interested in our purchases and impressions. He always made sure that our meals were served perfectly ..... It was clear that people he worked with also enjoyed him- even the cattle remembered and responded to him! There were several of us who are older and have minor challenges with ambulation. Mojo bent over backwards to make experiences comfortable, to help us off and on buses and boats, and to discuss with us in great detail what was coming up, how long it would take to walk to a certain point, how best to dress, etc. When people decided not to do certain activities, he would chase after them to see if he could accommodate them in some way. He could not have been more dedicated to our comfort, safety, participation and enjoyment. I really loved all the craft work on this tour. We were given great demonstrations on how things were made, as people actually made the products in front of us. They were all gracious with our fascinated observation and generously allowed us to take pictures. Often it was Mojo himself giving the explanation- I think he can do all those crafts! I really enjoyed bringing home some lacquerware afterward. I loved every stop, but Bagan was so beautiful - the sunset was spectacular. .....I was so moved by the organization that was teaching young people to be chefs, and the cooking (and eating!) was fun and interesting- including bringing the apron and recipes home! Thank you again for a wonderful experience!

Simply wonderful. Nepal is bustling with activity, with smells, with life! Most enjoyable were the walkabouts through Bhaktapur, and Tharu village in Chitwan National Park which allowed us to chat with the locals and have a closeup look at the way they live. The dinner, home visits and the conversations about life in Nepal were priceless. Bhutan is more than amazing! It’s pristine environment and culturally rich history is fascinating. I loved the dress-up in traditional Bhutanese dres. The hike to Tiger’s Nest, is wonderfully rewarding ... At first sight, Tiger’s Nest was blanketed with clouds, but as the clouds lifted it was breathtaking and hastened our steps. Thanks to our guides Rajesh (Nepal), and Dawa (Bhutan) and our drivers who did a stellar job in ensuring everything went smoothly!

Incredible doesn’t begin to describe it! From the moment we were met at the airport until the moment we left it just kept getting better. The accommodations were outstanding. We had a great trip to Morocco! Ali, our guide was a gem! We are very impressed! All of our city guides were excellent, too! This was our 1st Discovery trip (out of 4) and we plan to use this experience as our template for future Gate 1 trips. We felt very well cared for!!!

FABULOUS!! Sophia was absolutely wonderful & a wealth of knowledge. We all were amazed at her abilities regarding all the history at each location we stopped at, including the Acropolis Archaeology Museum. You are very fortunate to have her as your guide. Also, Christos is an excellent driver. He is very skilled at getting into surprisingly small spaces with our huge bus. We all appreciated his assistance with our travel around Greece. Great trip.....many highlights!!!
