This is an active trip. Our small group covers a lot of ground each day, and we spend two to three hours on our feet during tours and two to five hours driving between cities. The pace is moderate. Some of our tours require walking over uneven surfaces or up and down steep slopes. We hike on easy-to-moderate terrain during two hikes in Nepal. We hike on moderate to difficult terrain in Bhutan and we have many early mornings. We also travel up to 10,000 feet above sea-level. The Tiger’s Nest visit takes approximately 5 hours and requires a strenuous uphill hike including over 700 steps to reach the temple. All passengers must be able to hike unassisted. We have many early mornings. This tour is not recommended for people who have difficulty walking or who have heart conditions. This is a Small Group program. For more information, click here.

The Kalakriti Theater is the venue for this vibrant dance drama depicting a 16th century Mughal era love story that defines the Taj Mahal. Watch and listen (in a choice of languages by headset) as Shah Jahan and Queen Mumtaz Mahal profess their love for one another, and he creates the Taj Mahal in her memory. You will see the most realistic replica of the monument existing today. Animated action, brilliant costumes and powerfully resonant vocal performances. Best for those tenacious and would enjoy resounding vocals in local parlance.
Approximate tour duration is 2 hours.

This morning you will have the chance to do some exploring off the beaten path near the outskirts of the Kathmandu valley. We start out in Dhulikhel, an ancient town located about 20 miles east of Kathmandu city. We’ll hike among the rolling green hills, admiring the mountains stretching into the distance and traditional architecture that dots the area around this historic trading center along the old commercial route linking Nepal to Tibet. Along the way we’ll climb up to Devi Temple and stop at Shanti Ban, a serene forest that is home to a giant statue of Gautama Buddha. Our morning trek ends in Panauti village, a traditional Newar settlement rich in rural character. Here we will see a number of temples, including Indreshwar Mahadev Temple dedicated to Shiva and Bhairav Temple, along the idyllic, brick-paved streets lined with magnificent carved rest houses and stupas.
Please be advised this tour will involve 2-3 hours of walking and hiking over potentially rough, uneven terrain and a climb of 1000 steps with a brief break. Approximate tour duration is 5 hours.
|Day #25||01 Jan 2018 - 10 Jan 2020||$85.00|
It was a fantastic trip. Heshan our guide was knowledgeable and nice. Fantastic food and wonderful country.Douwe D. Flagstaff Hill, Australia
The trip was wonderful. Our two tour managers put their hearts in it and made our trip a life time experience ....The tour guide in Nepal was very thoughtful to prepare the masks for us when walking through the dusty city ...Christine L. Augusta, GA
The trip was amazing! What a wonderful and unique experience. We were awash in an explosion of cultural sights, sounds, emotions, and immersions...What made the trip especially memorable was all the people to people interaction. From riding on a rickshaw through the streets of Delhi, to visiting a local village in Nepal, to having dinner with a Tibetan refugee family, to interacting with children at a local school in Chitawan. That's what's so great about discovery tours: small groups and lots of interaction with people!Mike G. Lansdale, PA
We had a wonderful trip to Sri Lanka, everything went smoothly. Stayed in superb hotels, food was really good, and really appreciated the food and beverage package. Nipuna the tour manager along with Ravi the bus driver were first class. Would like to have stayed in Nuwara Eilya an extra day. Gate 1 Travel is the best.....our second trip with you and hopefully not the last.Susan Y. Maleny, QLD, AU
We had a great time on your trip into India and will be looking for more of your interesting trips in the future. Thanks again to your Guide, Driver and his assistant for making it a very memorable trip for us.Vicki P. Emu Plains, NSW, AU
Our trip was a great success. Our guide Jay was very good, very passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects and good fun too. The hotels were all good and I enjoyed the restaurants we were taken to...I greatly enjoyed seeing the traditional dancers, seeing how bronzes are made, the silk weavers and much more...I would certainly not hesitate to travel with Gate 1 again.Christina C. Calico Creek, QLD, AU
The India vacation was excellent. My wife and I had a wonderful time and it was all due to the professionalism of the tour guide Seerdar and his staff. He was very knowledgeable, looks out for the safety of his group. It was amazing how the driver could maneuver his large bus through those narrow streets. Thank you and your team for making our vacation worthwhile. Kudos to Gate1!!!!Lakeram A. Queens Vlg, NY
This was one of the best trips ever with gate1. Denver was a super guide with lots of knowledge and little extras that made it special. Fabulous animal sightings and great excursions.Joan S. Nobleboro, ME
It is the most wonderful trip we had. Our guide jairaj is the best. The itinerary is very good. What a surprise to find south India so interesting. The resort hotels were awesome. My friends all ask why south India? What is there to see? Now after all our photos and stories, they are lining up to come and experience. I would be interested in other parts of India is it is proven as good.Lily C. Vancouver, BC, CA
Awesome. My trip was awesome. And it was a spiritual journey. India is the most fascinating country on Earth. For the first time in my life I was not ready to go home. This was my third visit to India with Gate1 and I am already thinking about a fourth. Our guide, Sridar was amazing. His patience and diplomacy with our group is worthy of a raise! I can't thank you enough for the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful adventure.Stephen R. Akron, OH

Had a great time. The guide, driver and his helper were all great. Gate 1 personnel were at the airport to greet me and the driver and assistant on the way back were there on time and were very courteous. The sites were incredible and the hotels were amazing. I really learned a great deal about S. India's country, its culture, religion and people. I would recommend this trip to any seasoned traveller that hasn't visited India. Oh, my goodness, we had incredible, over-the-top, amazing adventures in India and Nepal! Both tour guides were fantastic and we were blessed to be exposed to the unique cultural and physical landscapes of the countries. This trip was beyond what we imagined. All our accommodations were great. Every day held new surprises and we were thankful to have a compatible group of only ten people. I had never heard of Gate 1 before discovering this trip online.
