After breakfast this morning, head east to the historic mining town of Banska Stiavnica in central Slovakia. Upon arrival, embark on a walking tour of the striking medieval town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. View the Holy Trinity Square, the Gothic style St. Catherine Church, and the impressive Holy Trinity Column, built as a gratitude for the retreat of the plague epidemic in the years 1710 – 1711. Explore the town's important historical, and cultural centre. View the central SNP square, the pride of Banska Bystrica, the slender Clock tower, that was built in 1552 as part of the town prison and St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. On the southern end of the square, admire the well preserved Thurzo’s House, a nobleman’s mansion, with an architectural mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque style. Proceed to the Namestie Stefana Moyzesa square flanked by buildings that once formed the town castle, built in the 12th and 13th centuries. Ride a cable car all the way up to the second highest point in Slovakia - Lomnicky Stit at 8641 feet above sea level. Weather permitting, experience a unique panoramic view of the area. In the afternoon, journey to the charming 13th century town of Levoca, one of the best preserved medieval towns in Slovakia. En route, view Spis Castle, Slovakia's largest medieval fortress. DAY 7, Wednesday - Bojnice Castle
Depart Strbske Pleso for the small spa town of Bojnice with its picturesque wooden cabins and paintings on the walls. Here, visit fairy-tale Bojnice Castle, perched on a travertine hill above the town. From the original 12th century fortification, only the foundations remain. A reconstruction during the early 20th century by the Palffy, a Hungarian noble family that drew inspiration from the castles of France’s Loire Valley, transformed Bojnice Castle to its present Neo-Baroque splendour. Light pink sandstone towers and crenellated turrets make this romantic castle the most visited in Slovakia. Currently the castle houses a museum of art and history. The exhibition contains the original furniture, various artifacts and paintings like the most valuable late Gothic alterpiece of Bojnice collection by Italian artist Nardo di Cione Ortagna from the mid-14th century. Afterward, spend time at leisure. Tonight, a unique and authentic experience awaits you. Take a short drive outside the town of Bojnice to a small village where you will meet and chat with locals during your barbecue dinner. Listen to local musicians perform traditional music

View Spilberk Castle, dominating the skyline of Brno, built on a hill directly above the city's historical centre in the mid 13th century as a seat for rulers of Moravia. In the heart of the city admire the imposing Neo-Gothic Cathedral of St. Peter & Paul, the Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock, an unusual clock that commemorates a historical victory over the Swedes. Continue to the Jewish Cemetery and the 364 foot tall AZ Tower, the tallest building in the Czech Republic. After, check into your hotel and spend time at leisure. Gather together for dinner tonight

Journey inside the caves and board a boat to float down the underground Punkva River. Pass through narrow caverns that open into rock pools accented by rising stalagmite columns and hanging stalactite composed of limestone. After your boat ride, take a cable car and ascend to viewing platforms for a peek into the 450 foot deep gorge of the Macocha Abyss. After lunch, drive to Porta Coeli, or Gateway to Heaven Convent, a unique convent complex from the 13th century, where a community of Cistercian nuns still lives. View the richly decorated Gothic portal of the Basilica, the chapter hall, and cloister. Continue with a visit to the impressive Pernštejn Castle*, one of the best preserved castles in the Czech Republic, known as the marble castle because of the marble-like stone used to frame its doors and windows. We are still talking about our wonderful Gate 1 trip, the things we learned, the people we met, and the fun we had. The more I think about this trip, the more I understand how difficult it is to plan an itinerary that pleases all on the trip. I must say that there was something for everyone ... we have no complaints. Our guides were all wonderful, especially Usa, our tour manager. She was efficient, pleasant, knowledgeable, and friendly for TWO WEEKS, and that is hard to do! I will have more thoughts once we get back to Houston, but at this point, I think we made a great decision to go with Gate 1.

Terrific, as usual! We’re now in double digits with traveling with Gate 1! Shyam, our guide, was superb. He conveyed his love of country, gave a good explanation of each day’s activities, and made sure everyone in the group was satisfied. He’s a gem. Also, his helper, Rohan, was great, and the driver did a terrific job. We were very pleased with the hotel selections and the itinerary. We have 2 more tours scheduled with Gate 1 this year. Keep up the good work!

As usual, Gate 1 did not disappoint. Sri Lanka was fabulous... with an abundance of friendly people, fabulous landscape and micro climates. It was rich in history and spirituality (Budha and Hindu temples everywhere) make this island very interesting to discover. I would be interested in expanding my exploration into the Northern part of Sri Lanka sometime in the future. I need to find out where in the world I will travel to in 2020...

The trip was wonderful and far exceeded all expectations! Silvia, our tour coordinator, was outstanding. She was attentive to the smallest detail and very knowledgeable of the area. We never saw her without a smile. Accommodations were wonderful and the meals consistently excellent. While all of our guides were exceptional, our guide at Terre del Paine, Chris, was outstanding. He conveyed his love of Patagonia with his hikes and gave us an even deeper appreciation of the area. The staff and crew of the Stella created a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Gate 1. This was our first Gate 1 Tour. We normally travel independently. We had a fabulous time doing the “Gems of South East Asia." We loved the small group (there were only 14 of us) and everyone got along really well. Panya did an outstanding job as our main tour guide. He went out of his way to accommodate everyone’s wishes and was very friendly, knowledgeable, thoughtful and compassionate. We had two vegans + a vegetarian + a non-fish eater in our group and he made sure everyone’s needs were taken care of at each restaurant. All the local tour guides were awesome too. We hope to use Gate 1 again in the future.

Our trip was wonderful. The guides were terrific, the sites and experiences were outstanding and the pace of activities was perfect. The tour was extremely well organized and the details and directions throughout were very clear. We especially enjoyed engaging in hands on experiences with residents in some of the countries. In addition to being very informative about the places we were visiting and the life and history in each of the countries we visited, our guides were instrumental in making suggestions and helping us navigate our way around cities on our own leisure time.

We had a very nice holiday in Sri Lanka. This was our first trip with Gate 1 and we are 100% satisfied with the superior standard of hotels you chose for us. The itinerary was varied and interesting, changing between nature and culture. Our guide, Heshan, was excellent, very helpful and very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna. The coach was always clean and fresh flowers were put on our seats daily. The couch driver and the assistant were excellent, and worked well as a team to get us safely through the chaotic traffic in Sri Lanka cities. Overall, very memorable and positive experience. We will definitely use your company in the future and recommend you to our friends.

The trip was magnificent. Easily the most physically demanding trip I have ever taken (jungle treks) ... I am 72 years old and in good health but the porters made the gorilla trek possible! The Ugandan people seem naturally friendly and outgoing. I love them. Morris 1 and Morris 2 are exceptional guides and just great guys. I recommend this trip to anyone and everyone. All of my Gate 1 trips have been super. My wife and I have always been taken care of extremely well. We go with another couple ... A great time for us to get together and have a great time. I wasn't sure what to expect and honestly was a little nervous to go to that part of the world. But I was pleasantly mistaken! This trip to Jordan was wonderful and such an eye-opening experience. The country is beautiful, safe and full of history. Our tour guide was exceptional! He knew so much and was a lot of fun! I'm grateful that Gate 1 created this tour and did it completely in Jordan (instead of a combo with another country). It really gives the traveler time to fully enjoy and appreciate Jordan. Discover Myanmar, September 2018
Dummy Image

I have taken several Gate 1 trips and am one of your cheerleaders- and the Myanmar trip was one of my favorites. To begin with, Mojo was a fabulous tour leader. We all loved him. He was fun- has a great sense of humor- and patient. He was interested in getting to know each of us, was interested in our purchases and impressions. He always made sure that our meals were served perfectly ..... It was clear that people he worked with also enjoyed him- even the cattle remembered and responded to him! There were several of us who are older and have minor challenges with ambulation. Mojo bent over backwards to make experiences comfortable, to help us off and on buses and boats, and to discuss with us in great detail what was coming up, how long it would take to walk to a certain point, how best to dress, etc. When people decided not to do certain activities, he would chase after them to see if he could accommodate them in some way. He could not have been more dedicated to our comfort, safety, participation and enjoyment. I really loved all the craft work on this tour. We were given great demonstrations on how things were made, as people actually made the products in front of us. They were all gracious with our fascinated observation and generously allowed us to take pictures. Often it was Mojo himself giving the explanation- I think he can do all those crafts! I really enjoyed bringing home some lacquerware afterward. I loved every stop, but Bagan was so beautiful - the sunset was spectacular. .....I was so moved by the organization that was teaching young people to be chefs, and the cooking (and eating!) was fun and interesting- including bringing the apron and recipes home! Thank you again for a wonderful experience!

Most enjoyable were the walkabouts through Bhaktapur, and Tharu village in Chitwan National Park which allowed us to chat with the locals and have a closeup look at the way they live. The dinner, home visits and the conversations about life in Nepal were priceless. Bhutan is more than amazing! It’s pristine environment and culturally rich history is fascinating. I loved the dress-up in traditional Bhutanese dres. The hike to Tiger’s Nest, is wonderfully rewarding ... At first sight, Tiger’s Nest was blanketed with clouds, but as the clouds lifted it was breathtaking and hastened our steps. Thanks to our guides Rajesh (Nepal), and Dawa (Bhutan) and our drivers who did a stellar job in ensuring everything went smoothly!

I have traveled on small group tours quite often, but this surpassed all expectations. Our guide in India was outstanding and the group I traveled with have all said they would travel again with her. I will certainly be booking through Gate 1 again.

Incredible doesn’t begin to describe it! From the moment we were met at the airport until the moment we left it just kept getting better. The accommodations were outstanding. The highlight though of course were the game drives. All of our drivers were so extremely knowledgeable which allowed us to track and see all of the Big 5. Don was our tour manager and he just made everything seem so effortless although I know there was a lot of coordination going on in the background. It won’t be our last visit to Africa or our last trip with Gate 1....thanks for the trip of a lifetime!

It was probably one of our best trips ever!! Morocco was absolutely beautiful. The size of our group was perfect. Our group itself were very cohesive, it was amazing. Our guide Mohammed was so kind and thoughtful that I think we all came back spoiled rotten. So much fun!

I have traveled a lot but never with a tour. Our trip to Kenya was spectacular and unlike any place I have ever been. Our guide was Yusuf. We could not have had a better guide ... Yusef is a very special man who made the trip even more amazing. I fell in love with the people and their spirit, the land was so beautiful and wild, and of course the animals were so up close and free. This experience will be the one that will thrill me for a lifetime. The experience could not have been better. Thank you Gate 1 for just the greatest experience. Also thanks to our booking agent Donna for advice on the time of year to make the trip and invaluable tips. And thanks to Yusuf for teaching us the language, educating us on the animals and of Kenya, and for his gracious company and friendship.
