This is an active trip. Our small group covers a lot of ground each day, and we will spend 4-5 hours on our feet during tours. Most of our tours will require walking over uneven surfaces or up and down steep slopes. Some days will require long transfers by shuttle bus. This tour is not recommended for people who have difficulty walking.

Welcome to Brazil! Arrive in captivating Salvador de Bahia, the original capital of Brazil and one of the country’s most colorful jewels. The rest of the day is yours to settle in and acclimate to your new surroundings. Tonight, join your Tour Manager and fellow travelers at a briefing on the extraordinary journey that lies ahead in Brazil, followed by a Welcome Dinner at a popular restaurant

DAY 3, Wednesday - Salvador de Bahia, Historic Pelourinho, Capoeira Performance
The discovery of Salvador begins at Bahia's oldest fort, the Farol da Barra (Barra Lighthouse) housing a nautical museum with displays dating back to Portuguese seafaring along with relics of the African slave trade. On to Cidade Alta, the Upper City, now reclaimed and transformed into the cultural heart of the city, celebrated for the richness of its Afro-Brazilian heritage and colonial history. Continuing through the Corredor da Vitória neighborhood, stop at historic 2nd of July Square and the Castro Alves Theater, home to the ballet and symphony. After lunch, a walking tour along the cobblestone streets in the historical center of Pelourinho with its remarkable gold drenched churches and pastel-hued 17th and 18th century buildings, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. View the magnificent church of São Franciso de Assis and the City Museum with its life-size Candomble figures, once used in ceremonial dances. At the Capoeira school, attend a performance of this dynamic martial art developed by slaves over 500 years ago that combines traditional African elements of music and dance. After dinner tonight, opportunity to listen to pulsating African music and watch local dancers in the Old Quarter of the city

DAY 4, Thursday - Santo Amaro Market, "Monument City" of Cachoeira
A scenic drive through fertile fields and picturesque villages takes you to the charming town of Santo Amaro where Brazilians believe the pulsating "Samba" was born. At the bustling market, admire the abundance of fruits, vegetables and rare spices from the Bahian region, along with beautiful local handicrafts. In the historic center, views of the colorful colonial architecture, the regal Church of Our Lady of Purification and the Casa de Câmara e Cadeia. Traveling through the Reconcavo region with its expansive sugar and tobacco crops you arrive in São Félix for a leisurely lunch. A drive over the D. Pedro II Bridge then takes you to the riverside colonial town of Cachoeira dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries when sugarcane and tobacco was the mainstay of its enormous wealth. Resplendent with colonial architecture and history on every corner, this city was aptly declared the "National Monument City." A walking tour through the picturesque streets reveals its beautiful baroque buildings and cultural heritage. Return to Salvador for an evening on your own to mingle with the locals and enjoy the food and nightlife of this vibrant city

DAY 5, Friday - Arrive in the Pantanal, a World Heritage Site
A flight connecting though Brasilia this morning takes you to Cuiaba, starting point for your excursion to the Pantanal, the largest continuous wetland on the planet, declared a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Renowned for its extraordinary wildlife, the Pantanal is a sanctuary to hundreds of species of birds and fauna such as jaguars, caimans and capybaras. On the way, enjoy several stops along the legendary Transpantaneira Road, one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the entire world, before arriving at your rustic eco-lodge in time for lunch. Here, after a warm welcome, a walking tour in the nearby forest introduces you to the new surroundings - you’ll be shown all the ways to minimize the impact of your presence on the environment. Tonight, dinner at the lodge followed by a night Safari to uncover nocturnal animals. Gaze at the star-studded sky, far from civilization and listen, as the sounds of nature serenade you

DAY 6, Saturday - Pantanal Activities
Join the guided photo Safari this morning in a specially adapted open vehicle. Amazing sights lie ahead on this drive along the winding roads as you observe the diverse wildlife and understand more about the unique vegetation. Perhaps even a canoe tour (you paddle) on nearby Lake Piuval! After lunch at the lodge, an afternoon of trekking along the winding trails provides intimate contact with the environment. Focus and observe the many different species of flora and fauna across the woods, fields and swamps, with the goal of appreciating the diversity of the ecosystem. Enjoy a gradual ascend to the canopy towers above the crown of the trees that offer fabulous panoramic views. At dinner, share moments from this exciting and adventurous day

DAY 7, Sunday - Pantanal Activities
Arise before dawn for an astonishing sunrise walk. It's the perfect time to observe the awakening of the birds and celebrate the beginning of a new day. A unique not to be missed experience! Return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by a gentle horseback riding tour along the trails - the most traditional way of becoming acquainted with Pantanal. The horses walk on this tour, so it’s okay even for beginners - the pure Pantaneiro horses are beautiful and docile too! Time to linger over lunch before further explorations. In the afternoon, options include boat and canoe tours, as well as hiking tours in the highlands where you can even shower under one of the many waterfalls. In this protected area, a fantastic opportunity to observe the many rare bird species. Tonight, after dinner, relax with the sounds of nature

DAY 8, Monday - Farewell to the Pantanal, Magical Rio de Janeiro
Bid farewell to your guides at the lodge and depart the Pantanal. A scenic drive takes you back to the airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro, connecting through Sao Paulo. Arrive in Rio de Janeiro, the vivacious "sun and fun" capital of South America. After time to settle in, the rest of the day is yours to become acquainted with this magical city that sparkles all night long

DAY 9, Tuesday - Sugar Loaf Mountain, Brazilian Cooking Lesson
On the way to iconic Sugar Loaf Mountain, symbol of the city, you pass many of the city’s landmarks including the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Municipal Theatre and the Sambadrome where samba schools parade during the Rio Carnivale. At Praia Vermelha, begin your ascend up this legendary mountain by cable car to the summit. The views are absolutely breathtaking from one of the highest spots in Rio -- the entire city is within your grasp, including the bridge, the bay, and majestic mountain ranges. Afterwards, be prepared for a fun-filled cooking lesson with a professional chef who will introduce you to the secrets of Brazilian cuisine. Learn how to prepare two traditional dishes - Bahian seafood and traditional Feijoada (stew). Then, enjoy a lunch of your personally cooked specialties. There'll be plenty of recipes to take home. Evening is at leisure to explore all of the delights of Rio on your own -- Samba clubs, great food and waterfront cafes

DAY 10, Wednesday - Corcovado Mountain, Samba Lessons, Dinner at a Churrascaria
Begin the day with an ascent by a scenic cog railway to the summit of Corcovado Hill. At 2,400 feet above the city you reach the 125 foot statue of Christ the Redeemer embracing all of Rio, declared as one of the seven "New Wonders of the World." Time on your own at these heights to appreciate the thrilling 360 degree sweeping views of the city and understand why Rio is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Descending from these incredible heights, the day continues with a panoramic tour of the city’s most gorgeous beaches -- Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. Later, get ready to learn the rhythmic and pulsating Samba at a special class with experienced teachers and professional Samba dancers. Dance the afternoon away! DAY 11, Thursday - Brazilian Side of Iguassu Falls
Today, a flight from Rio to spectacular Iguassu Falls. Upon arrival, a walk along the winding pathways on the Brazilian side of the majestic and awe-inspiring Falls, known as one of the world's greatest natural wonders. Iguassu consists of over 275 separate cataracts across a span of two and a half miles, wider than Victoria Falls and higher than Niagara Falls and more dramatic than both. Stand in awe at the unforgettable panoramic views before continuing to the hotel for leisure time

DAY 12, Friday - Argentinian Side of Iguazu Falls
Your adventure continues this morning on the Argentinian side of the Falls. After ascending by rail car to the Upper Circuit, walk to the Lower Circuit where the surprising power of nature is revealed. Along the catwalk you continue to spectacular "Devil's Throat," the most magnificent of all of the cataracts. View, photograph and feel the spray of these thundering waters, one of nature's most impressive achievements and a stunning experience for your senses. Spend the rest of the day exploring the natural treasures of this National Park, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tonight, share wonderful memories together of your journey in Brazil with your newfound friends at a festive Farewell Dinner
